Portland Women in Tech State of the Community Results

A few months ago, Portland Women in Tech (PDXWIT) opened up their annual State of the Community survey to the local Portland tech community. For the 2018 survey, PDXWIT doubled down on data related to discrimination and harassment in tech workplaces.

Today, the results from that survey are live.

We partnered with PDXWIT this year to create a data visualization site to display this important data. Our challenge was to highlight the most meaningful information from the survey in a clear, concise way. It was important to design the site in a way that highlighted the seriousness of the data being presented, while also maintaining the PDXWIT aesthetic.

The site was built by Ilana Davis, our Front-End Development intern at Planet Argon. On her experience working on the project, Ilana said, “This is real life for so many of us and we must demand change. As a woman in technology, and one of over 70 volunteers at PDXWIT, it’s my responsibility and privilege to keep pushing this message and to give a voice to those who don’t have one.”

We’ve previously partnered with PDXWIT to host networking and educational events at our North Portland studio. We’re excited to continue to build our relationship with their organization as they deepen their involvement in the Portland tech community.

Portland Women in Tech is a local non-profit organization. Their purpose is to strengthen the Portland women in tech community by offering: educational programs, partnerships, mentorships, resources, and opportunities. The events they hold are inclusive, educational, and empowering – anyone who supports their purpose is welcome.
