Just wanted to take a moment to congratulate Rick Turoczy on reaching his sixth year of running Silicon Florist.
As we’re approaching our own eleventh anniversary (later this month!)… I vaguely remember that void prior to Silicon Florist existing. There weren’t many resources outside of user groups, mailing lists, and the occasional bumping into someone at a pub to hear about the startup scene. In fact, I feel like too much of it was focused on the technology side of the equation… there wasn’t enough overlap in the various aspects to running a business (design, development, marketing, fund raising, sales).
With the local news coverage typically focused on larger funded companies, Rick was able to shine a spotlight on a lot of amazing work in the Portland area…. including our own.
Here’s just a few sampling of the news items Rick was kind enough to highlight for us.

- October, 2007 – Planet Argon offers up Boxcar account for October Hackfest
- August, 2009 – Rails Boxcar hitched to a new company: Tacoma group acquires Planet Argon Ruby on Rails hosting
- July, 2013 – It’s stormy in Portland… well, brainstormy anyway: Planet Argon and Opal take different approaches to getting us thinking
Silicon Florist is more than a news site. It’s a bridge. A bridge that has lead to so many introductions for so many folks in Portland.
