Alternative things to do while in town for RailsConf

PDX hobby and game shops

1. Just south of the Oregon Convention Center we have Guardian Games. A wide selection of board games, role playing games, and collectible card games they also have a large section of the store set aside for gaming tables, as well as an in-house bar called Critical Slip that is open most evenings (closed on Tuesdays, though). The store itself is open until at least 8pm everyday.
2. Not as close as Guardian Games to the Convention Center, but not far off the Tri-Met Max train line that runs right by the conference, we have BridgeTown Hobbies. They have a reasonable selection of games and books, but not as much table space as Guardian Games. They are open until 8 pm Tue, Wed, Thu, and Fri (but only until 6pm on Monday).
